I’m please to say that after several months of work on this site (mostly squeezed in between work on projects for clients), I’m finally able to take this site live.

The most important element of this site will be the Portfolio where I will showcase some of the work I have done as examples to future clients. I plan to include a brief description of the project, along with a screenshot or two where appropriate/available.

Apart from the portfolio, I will also be maintaining a blog about my experiences while freelancing, including tips, advice, and interesting resources that I find. Depending on my workload, I may not update too often, but I’ll try and get a post up at least every fortnight or so.

If you have a project in mind, please feel free to drop me a message to ask about my current availability.

I’m starting to get to grips with freelancing full-time, and I’ve already got some exciting projects in the pipeline. In the past I’ve worked for a few small businesses and a government department on various development-related projects, and I currently volunteer in the IT department at a local charity-funded adult education college.

Why I made the decision to freelance full-time

It’s a tough time for graduates right now, and a tough time for employers as well. Business owners are are increasingly looking to hire developers on a freelance or temporary basis because it’s much more affordable. Being freelance means I can work with anyone, wherever they are in the world (having said that, I do have office space and welcome people dropping in for a chat and a coffee). Freelancing also means I get the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects with different skills.

It’s not necessarily a permanent move; I’m open to job offers and if any interesting opportunities come along I’ll snap them up straight away. For the moment though, I’m enjoying working on small projects with various businesses.

The future of this site

My intention is to develop this site as a portfolio of work for visitors to browse and get an idea of what I do (feel free to contact me with any questions, suggestions or proposals for work). There’s also the blog aspect which will cover my developing experiences as well as useful resources and tips for business owners and developers.

So, welcome to JosephTansley.com and I hope to see you here again soon!
